Farooq Abdullah stepped down as party chief of the Jammu and Kashmir stating that it is time to hand over the responsibility to next generation. A fresh election for the post is scheduled to take place next month.

“I will not be contesting for the post of president any longer. The elections for the post will be held on December 5. It is time for the new generation to take over the responsibilities. Anyone from the party can contest for the post. It is a democratic exercise,” said Abdullah.

According to speculations arising, the vice president of the party and former chief minister Omar Abdullah will be the new party president. However the elections which are scheduled for next month will be the deciding factor that who will be the new party president.  

Tanvir Sadiq, chief spokesperson of the party and in-charge of communications said that elections will be held on 5 December and official notification will be issued soon.

Earlier Abdullah had given a hint on stepping down as party president. However he will serve his tenure till the elections.
