In the aftermath of the cremation of 22-year-old farmer Shubhkaran Singh, who lost his life during a protest at the Khanauri border on February 21, farmer unions are poised to determine the next steps for the Dilli Chalo protest. A crucial meeting between Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) is scheduled at the Shambhu border on Friday evening.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher emphasized concerns, stating, «The Centre is constructing a false narrative, portraying peacefully protesting farmers negatively. Our demands are being neglected, and we view the Punjab government›s stance with skepticism. We are scrutinizing every aspect.’
Pandher highlighted the registration of a zero FIR by the state government under public pressure and expressed anticipation regarding the Vidhan Sabha session›s acknowledgment of Shubhkaran Singh.
He added, ‘We await whether the state pays tribute to Shubhkaran Singh and introduces a resolution in the Vidhan Sabha, urging the Centre to implement legal guarantees on MSP.’ The meeting is anticipated to shape the future trajectory of the ongoing protest.
