KOTA: Over the demand for irrigation water, farmers of the Sangod and Ladpura tehsils of Kota district staged a demonstration and threatened to boycott upcoming assembly polls if their demands for irrigation water are not fulfilled. A large number of farmers from Sangod and Ladpura tehsils carried out a rally to the District Collectorate of Kota and later staged a dharna at the Collectorate. They submitted an 8-point memorandum to the District administration over the demands. Agitating farmers raised demands to provide water from the Chambal dams to the Alnia Dam in Kota. A farmer, Ravi Shankar said, “Despite being inhabited along the canal network of Chambal command, over 40 villages of these two tehsils are struggling for the irrigation water.” He said that over 40 villages of these two tehsils are dependent on the Alnia dam for irrigation needs, which carries insufficient water due to which the requirement of neither irrigation nor drinking water for the livestock is met.
