Farmers assembled in large numbers at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to conduct the ‘Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat’ today. A leader from the Samyukt Kisan Morcha referred to the Bharatiya Janata Party as “anti-farmer.”

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has organized a one-day “Delhi Chalo” event, with various organizations affiliated with the front gathering at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Thousands of farmers have already arrived for the event.

Participants in the Mahapanchayat stated that the stage proceedings would commence at noon on Thursday. Darshan Pal, a leader of SKM, mentioned that since their initial arrival in Delhi during the 2020 Kisan Andolan, they have expanded their network and established rules for their operations.

The purpose of today’s Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat is to expose what the farmers perceive as the BJP government’s betrayal. They aim to highlight the BJP’s alleged anti-farmer stance nationwide. Despite facing challenges in reaching the venue and being granted permission only two days prior, with several conditions imposed, the farmers condemn these actions. They wish to emphasize that “Delhi is not far away.”

Regarding security arrangements, DCP Central M Harsha Vardhan assured that the police have taken extensive measures to maintain law and order. The organizing group has provided a written undertaking with various points concerning law and order. Despite a significant number of farmers in attendance, the police are hopeful that everything will proceed smoothly, with minimal traffic and law and order disturbances.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has urged farmers and workers to ensure massive and peaceful participation in the ‘Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat’ on March 14. The event aims to intensify the fight against what the SKM perceives as pro-corporate, communal, and dictatorial policies of the Modi Government, focusing on saving farming, food security, livelihood, and the people from corporate exploitation.

The Mahapanchayat will adopt a Sankalp Patra or Letter of Resolution to escalate the ongoing struggle to achieve the genuine demands of the farmers and workers. It will also declare future plans of action in the run-up to the general election to the Lok Sabha.

The Delhi Police have issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Mahapanchayat at Ramlila Maidan on March 14, ensuring basic amenities such as parking, water, toilets, and ambulance services. The SKM has welcomed the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Chaduni group of farmers to join the event.

SKM strongly opposes the Modi Government’s decision to sign the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Free Trade Agreement, alleging that it would severely impact the domestic market and people’s livelihoods.
