Farmers who had reached the temporary market built on PR-7 road towards Nagla village of Zirakpur with their paddy crop, were angry due to the non-starting of the loading and purchase of the crop and blocked the Chandigarh-Ambala highway near McDee Chowk at around 4 pm. Due to which the speed of vehicles on the highway came to a halt and long queues of vehicles were formed till the flyover. The farmers who blocked the highway said that they have been sitting with their paddy crop in the market built on PR-7 road towards Nagla village for the last one week but the loading work has not started yet. They have been told every time that the loading work will start today but despite 8 days, their crop is lying under the open sky. After getting information about the jam, SHO Zirakpur reached the spot and got the jam cleared by convincing the farmers.
Farmers Didar Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Gurnam Singh and other farmers said that there is no arrangement of any kind where the market has been built. They have to stay in the open sky at night, there is no arrangement of water, no toilet and no arrangement of food. On top of that, the work of loading and purchasing their crops is not starting on time, due to which they are facing problems. Out of compulsion, they have had to block the road. There is no facility of any kind at the place where the market has been built. Crops are being stolen at night and they have to stay awake all night to protect their crops. Earlier there were no sacks, now the work of stuffing is not being done.
