World Health Day 2024: ‘My Health, My Rights’ Initiative launched

“My Health, My Rights” initiative launched by National Medical Commission (NMC) and the National Task Force on Mental Health and Well-being of Medical Students (NTF) on World Health Day 2024.

The aim of this coordinated by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the NMC is to address healthcare issues faced by medical students and professionals alike.

The nature of the medical profession involves lengthy hours and rigorous training which often affects healthcare providers physically, mentally and emotionally.

The NMC aims to establish a comprehensive support system so that access to quality healthcare will be available and the well-being of medical students and professionals will be prioritized.

The key components of the initiative consist of mental health support services, confidential counselling, therapy, and resources to address stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.

“My Health, My Rights,” theme encourage the people to take ownership of their health through exercise, nutrition, meditation, social engagement, and environmental stewardship.

The initiative is also meant to introduce wellness programmes which focus on physical health, emotional resilience, and work-life balance, including yoga, mindfulness meditation, stress management workshops, and nutritional guidance.

Dr. BN Gangadhar, Chairman of the National Medical Commission, showed interest regarding the initiative and laid emphasis on prioritising health and well-being of medical students and professionals.

Dr. Aruna Vanikar, President of UGMEB, NMC, pointed out the requirement to remove the stigma related to mental health issues within the medical community, and establish a culture rooted in openness and support and also highlighted the significance of prioritising the well-being of healthcare providers by starting mentorship programs to build resilience in medical students.

Dr. Vijay Oza, President of PGMEB, NMC, zeroed in on the rights of comprehensive training, mentorship, and emotional resilience support to post-graduate medical students.

The Head of Publication Division and Member of the EMRB, Dr. Yogender Malik, pointed out the importance of the ethical foundation of healthcare systems worldwide and equitable access to healthcare services and promoting well-being for all.

As we celebrate World Health Day 2024, let us ensure commitment to “My Health, My Rights,” ensuring that every individual in the medical field can realise their true potential.
