Rajasthan Deputy CM Assures Safety for Students in Bishkek Amidst Turmoil

Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa provided reassurance that the government is actively addressing the situation of students trapped in the conflict-ridden Kyrgyz Republic. He emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring their safety and facilitating their return.

“Definitely, we have a BJP government, and just as PM Modi has previously brought back our children safely from wherever they were stranded, the government is working on this matter as well, and the children will remain safe, and arrangements will be made to bring them back. I also want to assure their parents not to worry because the way PM Modi and our officials are working, they will ensure the children’s safety,” Bairwa said. “If there are any security issues there, I assure you that they will be brought back safely, so you should not worry at all,” he added.

On May 18, the Pakistan embassy in Kyrgyzstan stated, “There have been several incidents of mob violence against foreign students in Bishkek since last evening. According to the Kyrgyz press, the matter boiled over yesterday due to the sharing online of videos of a fight between Kyrgyz students and medical students from Egypt on May 13.”

“We are in touch with our students. The situation is presently calm, but students are advised to stay indoors for the moment and get in touch with the Embassy in case of any issues. Our 24×7 contact number is 0555710041,” the Indian embassy in Kyrgyzstan posted on X.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also mentioned on Saturday that the well-being of Indian students in Bishkek is being monitored. Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Bishkek said on Sunday that the situation there is normal now and the Indian students are safe.
