The Poland cybersecurity services identified unauthorized access to the IT system of the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) on Sunday, leading to an immediate response to secure the compromised networks. Minister of Digitalisation Krzysztof Gawkowski confirmed the attack and ensured continued investigations to determine the attackers.

“About the incident, the attacked systems were made secure … There are also intense operational actions aimed at determining who is responsible for the cyberattack,” Gawkowski said on X (formerly Twitter).

POLSA Reacts to the Cybersecurity Attack

After the security incident, POLSA immediately isolated its network from the internet to avoid further harm. The agency confirmed the cybersecurity incident and noted that investigations were underway to determine the scope of the attack.

“The issue is being investigated, and to guarantee data security, the POLSA network was immediately disconnected from the Internet,” the agency told Polish news agency PAP.

Possible Cyber Threats Tied to Geopolitical Tensions

Polish officials have repeatedly blamed Moscow for trying to destabilize Poland, particularly through its support for Ukraine during the current conflict. Although no specific attribution has occurred, there continues to be speculation about possible Russian involvement. But Russia has dismissed any involvement in cyberattacks against Poland.

The attack underlines the increasing cybersecurity threat facing government institutions globally, especially those handling strategic sectors such as defense and aerospace.

Regulators are monitoring the situation closely as the efforts to boost the cybersecurity infrastructure in Poland continue to grow.
