Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after completing his visit to France, left for the United States on Wednesday. While on an official visit PM Modi and Macron discussed to strengthen trade, investment and Indo-Pacific cooperation. The leaders also jointly inaugurated India’s new consulate in Marseille which strengthened diplomatic relations.
Before his departure, French President Emmanuel Macron greeted him warmly at Marseille Airport, marking the close links that exist between the two countries.

On Tuesday, Modi co-chaired the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris with Macron and participated in the 14th India-France CEOs Forum. He also became the first head of government to visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) site in Cadarache, a major global fusion energy project.
PM Modi Expresses Gratitude to France
After concluding his engagements, PM Modi highlighted the visit’s success, emphasizing collaboration across AI, trade, energy, and cultural sectors. He also wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) “Thank you France! A successful trip ends, during which I participated in a series of events, from Artificial Intelligence, commerce, energy and cultural engagement. Gratitude to President Emmanuel Macron and the French people.”
Historic Visit to ITER Site
In the meantime, PM Modi and Macron went to the ITER site at Cadarache, the first visit by a head of state or government to the site. According to a release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the heads were received by the Director General of ITER.
They stated the advancement of the highly ambitious fusion energy program, in particular, the building of the biggest Tokamak in the world. When operational, the reactor will produce 500 MW of fusion power by burning plasmas. Both leaders also expressed appreciation for the commitment of engineers and scientists involved in the project.
India-US Strategic Partnership
On the US visit, the Prime Minister PM Modi is to have †high-power level contacts such as a bilateral meeting of PM Modi with President Donald Trump. He will be the fourth foreign head of state to arrive at the US presidency since his inauguration as the 47th president of the United States in January.
PM Modi also met US Vice President J.D. Vance, his Indian-descent wife, and their two sons, highlighting India’s resurgent diplomatic relations with the US administration. His 2-day working visit is forecast to lay down additional strategic ground for the India-US partnership.
