There will be one room for one painting, but the Mona Lisa,” French President Emmanuel Macron stated in announcing new plans for the Louvre Museum. This decision was part of an overall project termed “New Renaissance,” which sought to redesign and restore the world’s largest and most visited art museum by 2031 as a more open and central location for culture. The initiative also encompasses the construction of a grand new entrance to more effectively balance visitor flow and to improve the connection of the museum with the community.

In it, Macron outlined that the rebuilding would turn Louvre into the “heart of the history of art,” for France as for the whole world. It suggests greater immersion: encouraging both local visitors and foreign citizens to share museum treasures in revitalized spaces. The design at the museum proposes improvements to increase accessibility for residents of Paris as well as give new life to the neighbourhood.

The Louvre is preparing to experience a massive change in how art is put on display and experienced with the dedicated space allocated to the Louvre’s most famous piece: the Mona Lisa. The redevelopment is expected to breathe new life into one of the world’s most iconic institutions, making it a destination for future generations.
