Joe Biden vows ‘ironclad’ support for Israel’s security amid threats from Iran

US President Joe Biden reiterated his country’s unwavering support for Israel following Iran’s threat of retaliation over the recent strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria. Speaking at a press conference alongside Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, Biden emphasized, “As I told Prime Minister Netanyahu, our commitment to Israel’s security against these threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad. Let me say it again: ironclad. We’re going to do all we can to protect Israel’s security.”

Addressing the Oval Office meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu, Biden highlighted discussions on the Iranian threat and the need to address it. He reiterated their joint efforts towards a ceasefire and a potential hostage deal, with a focus on humanitarian aid for Gaza. Biden urged Israel to agree to a ceasefire and allow unrestricted access for food and medicine for the next six to eight weeks.

Regarding his talks with Netanyahu, Biden stressed his direct and frank approach, stating, “About my discussions with Netanyahu, as well as our relationship with Israel, I have been very blunt and straightforward with the Prime Minister, as well as his War Cabinet, as well as the Cabinet.”

Biden disclosed details of his extensive conversation with Netanyahu, including agreements to increase aid to Gaza and minimize civilian casualties in the region. He affirmed his administration’s dedication to securing the release of hostages held by Hamas, emphasizing their commitment to bringing American hostages home.

Overall, Biden underscored the importance of addressing the ongoing crisis in the region and reiterated the United States’ steadfast support for Israel’s security.
