Following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the Foreign Minister, and other officials, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi lowered its flag to half-mast as a mark of respect.
The helicopter, carrying President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and their delegation, crashed in the Dizmar forest between Varzaqan and Jolfa in East Azarbaijan Province during adverse weather conditions.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on social media, acknowledging President Raisi’s efforts in strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Iran.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also mourned the deaths, recalling his recent meetings with President Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdillahian in January 2024. World leaders and former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif Khansari also offered their condolences, highlighting the impact of the tragic accident on Iran and expressing solidarity with the Iranian people.
