The population of Indian students in France is estimated to reach a record 10,000 by 2025, based on a joint statement released by India and France during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Paris. The statement represents a big leap in boosting education and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed their intention to further develop bilateral trade, investment, and international partnerships. They stressed the enhanced educational links and appreciated the achievements of the International Classes Scheme, which has been pivotal in acclimatizing Indian students for higher studies in France.

The scheme facilitates Indian students to study French as a foreign language along with experience in educational techniques in leading French universities for one academic year before registering for their selected courses.

“It will create conducive conditions to increase student mobility and meet the target of 30,000 Indian students in France by 2030. In that regard, they welcomed the rising number of Indian students in France, with 2025 figures expected to reach an unprecedented 10,000,” the release stated.

Boosting Youth and Professional Mobility

They both recognized that the Young Professionals Scheme (YPS) under the India-France Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (MMPA) effectively promotes the mobility of young professionals between the two nations, strengthening the cultural and economic bonds.

Besides, they underlined the significance of vocational education and skill development, pointing out the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in these areas. The accord is likely to open up new avenues for professionals and students from both countries.

India-France Roadmap on Artificial Intelligence

Modi and Macron also set out an India-France Roadmap for Artificial Intelligence (AI), including a push to design safe, open, and secure AI systems. This cooperation speaks to both countries’ vision of pursuing responsible innovation of AI.

“They welcomed the inclusion of Indian startups at the French Startup Incubator Station F,” the announcement further read, reflecting France’s willingness to boost India’s start-up community.

Strengthening Indo-French Relations

The talks between Modi and Macron strengthened the strategic and economic partnership between India and France, with an emphasis on education, mobility, and technological innovation. The leaders committed to further collaboration in international forums and initiatives, further strengthening their alliance in the Indo-Pacific region.

As more Indian students opt for France for higher studies and career prospects, this association is likely to boost bilateral ties and open new opportunities for career and academic development.
