The Indian Navy’s INS Kochi swiftly responded to a maritime security incident involving an attack on the Panama-flagged crude oil tanker MV Andromeda Star PM, as confirmed by a statement from the Indian Navy on Sunday.
Upon intercepting the distressed oil tanker, INS Kochi conducted an aerial reconnaissance of the situation using an Indian Navy helicopter. Additionally, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was dispatched to the vessel to assess any residual risks.
Fortunately, all 30 crew members, including 22 Indian nationals, were reported safe. The vessel is now continuing its planned transit to the next port without further incident, according to the navy’s statement.
The Indian Navy emphasized that the prompt response of INS Kochi underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety of seafarers navigating through the region.
