India and EU Strengthen Ties: PM Modi Discusses Strategic Goals

India and EU Strengthen Ties: PM Modi Discusses Strategic Goals

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s natural partnership with the European Union during a recent discussion with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the India-EU Strategic Partnership in diverse sectors, including technology, green energy, digital space, trade, and investments.

In a post on X, PM Modi said:
“Pleased to speak with President Antonio Costa. India and the EU are natural partners. We are committed to working closely together to further strengthen the India-EU Strategic Partnership, including in the areas of technology, green energy, digital space, trade, and investments.”

Antonio Costa’s Commitment to India-EU Relations

Antonio Costa, reminiscing about his meeting with PM Modi during Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017, called India a significant global partner of the EU. Costa shared his thoughts on X, saying:
“It was a pleasure to talk again with my long-time friend, India PM Narendra Modi. We’ve known each other since 2017, when he invited me to Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. India is one of our main global partners. It is time to boost our relations and engage in a new strategic agenda. Looking forward to the EU-India Summit later this year.”

Costa added that their discussions touched on security, international law, and collaborative efforts to address geopolitical challenges in Europe and Asia.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025 to Be Hosted in Odisha

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s capital, is gearing up to host the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention from 8–10 January 2025. This flagship event will witness participation from content creators and members of the Indian Diaspora worldwide.

According to Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (CPV & OIA), the Odisha government will host two plenary sessions showcasing the immense potential for the Indian Diaspora in Odisha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the event and remotely inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train designed for the Indian Diaspora.
