External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties. The discussions covered trade, investment, shipping, connectivity, mobility, culture, and artificial intelligence.
Jaishankar emphasized that the India-Middle East Economic Corridor (IMEC) and the India-Mediterranean connect would play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of India-Greece relations.
“Held a very productive conversation on advancing our multifaceted relations. Also discussed IMEC and India-Mediterranean connect, which will be a major focus of the next phase of our relations,” Jaishankar posted on X.
India’s Support for Greece in the UNSC
Jaishankar also assured India’s full support to Greece during its tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2025-26.
Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis expressed Greece’s commitment to strengthening ties with India, particularly in tourism, culture, and trade.
“In the last couple of years, bilateral relations between Greece and India have been upscaled tremendously… We would like to be reliable interlocutors to the EU-India relationship,” Gerapetritis stated.
Growing India-Greece Engagement
India and Greece have witnessed a surge in diplomatic interactions, including frequent Prime Ministerial visits. Gerapetritis’s visit to India aims to enhance diplomatic and strategic ties, fostering cooperation in multiple sectors.
As both nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, their focus remains on expanding economic partnerships and strategic alliances.
