First-ever Hindi broadcast launch in Kuwait marks significant achievement

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait announced the commencement of the first-ever Hindi radio broadcast in Kuwait, as reported on Monday. This initiative, launched by Kuwait’s Ministry of Information, introduces a Hindi program on Kuwait Radio, airing on FM 93.3 and AM 96.3 every Sunday. The embassy commended Kuwait’s Ministry of Information for this significant step, emphasizing its role in strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Kuwait.

In a social media post, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Information, stating, “Start of first-ever Hindi Radio broadcast in Kuwait! Embassy of India expresses appreciation to @MOInformation for starting a Hindi programme on Kuwait Radio on FM 93.3 and AM 96.3 on every Sunday (8.30-9 pm) starting 21 April 2024, a step that will further strengthen India-Kuwait.”

The Indian community in Kuwait is the largest expatriate group with almost a million members, and it is well-known among other expatriate communities, according to the Indian Embassy. Engineers, physicians, chartered accountants, scientists, software specialists, management consultants, architects, technicians, nurses, retail traders, and businesspeople are among the professions who call Kuwait home.

The Indian Business Community in Kuwait has established a significant presence in the local market, particularly in retail and distributorship sectors. The longstanding friendly relations between India and Kuwait, deeply rooted in history, have endured over time, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). India has historically been a key trading partner of Kuwait, with the Indian rupee serving as the legal tender until 1961. The year 2021-22 marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

On April 17, the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, met with Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, acknowledging and appreciating the expatriate-friendly measures implemented during his tenure. The ambassador also briefed him on the latest developments concerning the Indian community.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait shared the details of this meeting on social media, posting, “Amb @AdarshSwaika1 called on the Dy PM & Minister of Defence and Acting Minister of Interior H.E Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah. Amb thanked the Dy PM for the expatriate-friendly measures instituted during his tenure & apprised him of developments related to the Indian community.”
