Due to her young children, Kate Middleton postponed disclosing her cancer diagnosis

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, addressed social media speculations surrounding her absence from the public eye by revealing the sobering news of a cancer diagnosis. Although she has been undergoing chemotherapy since her abdominal surgery in January, her public statement was delayed for two months, possibly due to her young children.

In her video message, Kate explained that she and her husband, Prince William, chose to handle the news privately for the sake of their “young family.” The timing of the announcement coincided with the school holidays of their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—keeping them out of the public eye when the news was shared.

“It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok. As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits,” she stated.

Describing the diagnosis as a “huge shock,” Kate requested privacy as she undergoes her preventative chemotherapy. She expressed the family’s need for time, space, and privacy during her treatment.

Following her abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace initially stated that Kate was expected to resume official duties after Easter. However, she has now clarified that she will return to work only after achieving a full recovery.

“My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery,” she affirmed.
