DEWA awards winners of 2nd cycle of Cleantech Hackathon

The 2nd cycle of the Cleantech Hackathon, organized by the Innovation Centre of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), saw participation from over 160 candidates representing 25 nationalities and 20 universities worldwide. The event, focusing on sustainable innovations in energy, digital transformation, and clean energy integration, awarded three winners with monetary prizes based on innovation and impact.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, highlighted the organization’s commitment to supporting youth empowerment and providing them with tools to contribute to a brighter future, aligning with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, emphasized the Innovation Centre’s role in promoting sustainability, enhancing national capabilities, and improving business competitiveness in the sector.

The competition, structured around three tracks, aimed to optimize the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of clean energy sources, ensure the reliability of renewable energy, and integrate renewable energy into existing systems. These tracks aim to address challenges related to energy storage, distribution, and smart grid technologies, contributing to efficiency and innovation in the sector.
