Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Students for Development & Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, organised a Regional Level Competition for the National Environment Youth Parliament. The event brought together 68 shortlisted candidates representing three states (Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand) and 8 universities, fostering debate on critical environmental sustainability issues with over 100 attendees at the inaugural session.
The distinguished chief guest, Professor Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, and guest of honor Er. Gopal Arya Ji, Renowned Environmentalist and National Convener of Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi (PSG), graced the occasion.
Prof. Vig underscored environmental concerns, addressing rising smog levels, advocating for reduced vehicle movement, transition to public transit and electric vehicles, and stressing the challenges of air conditioning and waste management. She called on youth to lead environmental protection efforts in the face of global warming.
Er. Arya delved into the role of youth in identifying solutions, adopting traditional practices, and upskilling through regular development. He discussed the various levels of the National Youth Parliament event, emphasizing a holistic approach.
The 10-member jury, including Prof. Devendra S Malik, Dr. Kalzang Chodden, Dr. Anita Singh, Prof. Rajinder Kaur Gill, Dr. Neetu Singh, Dr. Bhupender Singh, Dr. Maninder Kaur, and Dr. Deepak Kumar, played a crucial role. Prof. Ravindra Khaiwal from PGIMER, Chandigarh, coordinated the event’s success.
