Canadian actor Stephen Amell has been cast as Ted Black in the upcoming NBC drama ‘Suits’ spinoff, ‘Suits: LA.’ According to Variety, Black is described as a charismatic force of nature who prioritizes his own needs above others. The spinoff, produced by UCP, received a pilot order from NBC and is set to begin filming in Vancouver in March.

‘Suits,’ which originally aired on USA Network for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019, recently gained popularity when it began streaming on Netflix in 2023, topping the charts for several weeks. The combined streaming time for Netflix and Peacock has exceeded 45 billion minutes.

The new series, created by Aaron Korsch, will follow Ted Black, a former New York prosecutor who establishes a Los Angeles legal firm specializing in criminal and entertainment law. The show’s official logline states, “His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career.” The series will explore the dynamics among Ted and his team, as well as the personal and professional challenges they face.

Executive producers David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, and Victoria Mahoney are on board for the project, with Mahoney directing the pilot. The show is set in the same universe as the original ‘Suits,’ promising the same energy and attractive characters, but with a focus on compelling storytelling and character development.

Stephen Amell is known for his role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on The CW’s ‘Arrow’ and its spinoffs, as well as his lead role in Starz’s wrestling drama ‘Heels,’ which aired for two seasons from 2021-2023. He will also appear in Netflix’s ‘Code 8 Part II,’ which he produced.
