Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty has been honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his monumental contributions to Indian cinema. The announcement was met with widespread joy across the entertainment industry, with several political figures and colleagues in the film fraternity expressing their admiration and congratulating Chakraborty for this incredible achievement.

Actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaya Prada conveyed her heartfelt congratulations to the iconic star. “It is a very delightful moment for us as Mithun Chakraborty is a superstar. He has worked in many languages. It is a matter of happiness for me and the whole industry as he is being honored with such a prestigious award,” Prada shared with the media, emphasizing the significance of his achievements for Indian cinema as a whole.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also shared his appreciation, praising Chakraborty’s dedication to the art of acting. “Congratulations to Mithun Chakraborty Ji on being conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his monumental contribution to Indian cinema,” Shah posted on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledging the legacy Chakraborty has built over decades of cinema.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to social media to express his delight, calling Mithun Chakraborty a “cultural icon.” In his post, the Prime Minister highlighted the actor’s ability to captivate audiences across generations with his versatile performances, writing, “Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him.”

The announcement of this prestigious honor was made by Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw. In his post on X, Vaishnaw praised Chakraborty’s remarkable cinematic journey, calling him an inspiration for future generations of actors and filmmakers. Chakraborty will officially receive the award during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony, scheduled for October 8, 2024, a significant moment in an already illustrious career​.

Mithun Chakraborty’s journey in Indian cinema began with his National Film Award-winning debut in Mrigayaa (1976). Since then, his career has been filled with iconic roles in films across various genres, making him a household name not just for his acting prowess but also for his electrifying dance numbers. One of his most memorable performances, “I Am a Disco Dancer,” solidified his place as a Bollywood icon, loved by fans for his unique style and energy on screen.
