Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney to Skip Hosting the 2025 Oscars

Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney will not be hosting the 2025 Academy Awards. People magazine has confirmed that Kimmel, who has previously hosted the Oscars four times, will not return for the next ceremony. Kimmel last hosted the event in 2024 and had notable stints in 2017, 2018, and 2023. Despite his successful tenure, which included achieving the highest ratings for the Oscars in four years, Kimmel has opted out of hosting the 2025 event.

John Mulaney, the well-regarded comedian known for his sharp humor and engaging performances, was also considered for the role. Mulaney, who impressed audiences at the Academy’s 14th Governors Awards in January and made a memorable appearance at the 2024 Oscars, has decided to decline the hosting opportunity.

Mulaney’s performance was highly praised by actor Kevin Costner, who described it as “amazing” and “touching,” noting that Mulaney’s work was impressive and impactful.

The 97th Academy Awards will take place on March 2, 2025, and will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood at 7 pm ET on ABC. The Oscars have featured various hosting formats over the years, including periods without a host and multiple hosts. With Kimmel and Mulaney stepping back, the Academy will now search for a new host to lead Hollywood’s biggest night.
