Singer Halsey has revealed the title of her fifth studio album: The Great Impersonator. Known for her pop hits and use of she/they pronouns, Halsey shared a trailer for the album that spans several decades and introduces it as a “confessional concept album,” according to People.

In the trailer, Halsey reflects on the album’s significance, saying, “I really thought this album would be the last one I ever made.” The teaser features Halsey dressed in vintage clothing and hairstyles from various decades, imagining how her career might have looked if she had debuted in different eras. She questions, “What if I had started in the early 2000s? The ’90s? The ’80s? The ’70s?” and wonders whether she would still be the same person in each timeline, considering aspects like her health and potential for motherhood.

The video shows Halsey taking on the personas of iconic musicians from different decades, including David Bowie and Britney Spears, whom she previously featured in her track “Lucky.” It also includes brief clips of unreleased songs that capture the essence of different musical styles from across the decades. The trailer concludes with Halsey pondering whether she would be proud of the person she has become if everything ended now, emphasizing the album’s introspective nature.

In preparation for The Great Impersonator’s release, Halsey has already dropped three singles: “The End,” “Lucky,” and “Lonely Is the Muse.” After releasing “The End” in June, she provided a health update on Instagram, revealing she has been dealing with lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. She expressed gratitude for the support from her fans and shared that she had kept her health struggles private for a long time before deciding to open up.

Recently, Halsey also addressed her frustration with negative fan feedback on Tumblr. She shared that some fans’ harsh criticism has made her regret returning to music. She described feeling disheartened by the lack of kindness and understanding from her audience, especially after facing severe health challenges that nearly cost her life.
