Khushboo Patani, a retired Indian Army Major & fitness coach, has found herself surrounded by a digital storm. In a viral video, she can be seen falsely criticising the spiritual guru Premanand Ji Maharaj, which has sparked backlash. However, Khushboo Patani has made it clear that her remarks were misinterpreted and it was originally directed at another public figure, Aniruddhacharya, who made sexist comments.
As the false narrative spiralled, Khushboo announced legal action against accounts that spread the misinformation. Her case isn’t just about defending her name — it also exposes the growing danger of manipulated content on Indian social media.
Fake Narrative, Real Consequences
The whole controversy began when a video clip of Khushboo went viral in which she criticised derogatory comments made by Aniruddhacharya, also known as “Pookie Baba.” He had claimed that women marrying at 25 have already been in several relationships. His misogynistic remarks drew wide criticism. Khushboo voiced her opinion in response to this.
But the clip was edited, stripped of context, and recirculated. Some handles claimed she was targeting Premanand Ji Maharaj instead. This led to a storm of outrage and online harassment. However, Khushboo denied all these links.
Threatening legal action
In a necessary move, Khushboo took to Instagram to call out specific social media accounts. She accused pages like @yourrspiritualgirl, @utsavshukla.news, and @delhi_ka_deepak_official of spreading false claims.
She stated her intent to initiate legal action under the IPC and IT Act provisions. The charges may include defamation, cyber harassment, and forgery. According to her, the false links to Premanand Ji created not only public confusion but also endangered her safety and dignity.

Aniruddhacharya Doubles Down
Instead of apologising, Aniruddhacharya released another video. In it, he defended his original remarks. He said people opposing him were uncomfortable with the truth.
He also hinted that women wanted to appear virtuous while acting otherwise, fueling more criticism online.
Silence of Disha Patani
Disha Patani, Khushboo’s younger sister and a Bollywood actor, has chosen not to comment. The star of films like Loafer and Kanguva has remained distant from the debate. Khushboo, however, continues to clarify her stance publicly and fight the narrative.
Khushboo’s case is not an isolated incident. It’s a warning sign. Viral misinformation, often fueled by fan pages or influencer-led accounts, can distort the truth in minutes. Once a clip spreads with false claims, damage control becomes nearly impossible.
Without content verification procedures, anyone might become a victim in India’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. Khushboo’s drive for legal action emphasizes how urgently stricter laws are needed, particularly for platforms that profit from reach above truth.

Demanding Accountability From Digital Platforms
Khushboo has urged the public to verify content before forming opinions. Her caption — “Fake News Against Me! Deliberate effort to defame me!” — reflects her frustration. She insists her words were taken out of context to drive a false narrative.
As she takes legal steps, this case could force a larger conversation on holding digital creators and influencers accountable for content distortion.
