In a vintage interview that has gained traction, Saif Ali Khan opened up about a turning point at the beginning of his career being dropped from his would-be debut film, Bekhudi (1992). The director had allegedly advised him to make a choice between his girlfriend and the role, staging a turn-of-fate moral dilemma.
Saif told us how the director of the film presented him with a choice: Either leave your girlfriend or carry on with the film. For most, such a choice would have come as extreme but for Saif, it was a point of principle. Struggle shouldn't be gauged in terms of difficulty like driving rickety autos or spending hours in offices. My struggle was different," he told us. In the end, he quit the project, standing by his personal integrity rather than accepting early stardom.
At the same time, gossip went around that Saif had been reporting on set drunk or sleeping constantly rumors that hit him hard. That episode left a mark; he confessed in subsequent interviews. It wasn't merely a lost film; it was a setback to his nascent reputation.

Unfazed by the failure, Saif didn't lose hope. His debut eventually came with Aashiq Awara (1993), followed by his breakthrough later with Parampara, a multi-starred drama that finally got him established in the industry. With his career, he went on to give outstanding performances in films like Yeh Dillagi, Hum Tum, and Dil Chahta Hai, proving to be a versatile actor. Decades later his critically acclaimed role in Sacred Games lent weight in the digital age.

Saif's thoughts on what hardship is hit close to home. His struggle was not poverty or waiting in line for ages it was balancing the competing expectations of show business and self. He has always insisted that success was staying true to oneself and not succumbing to poisonous expectations.
