Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s family has decided to challenge the Central Bureau of Investigation’s closure report on his abrupt death in 2020 as “incomplete” and “flimsy.” The decision has been made after the closure report confirmed that there was no evidence that actor Sushant Singh Rajput was held captive or threatened or that any offense was done by actor Rhea Chakraborty and other accused in the case.

Why did SSR Family Refuse the CBI Closure Report?

Sushant Singh Rajput’s family and their attorney, Advocate Varun Singh, have refused the findings in totality, calling the closure report a superficial exercise, and have made up their minds to contest it in court.

“This is eye washing. If CBI sincerely wanted to release the truth, it would have placed all the case-supporting documents, such as chats, technical reports, witness statements, medical reports, etc., before the court along with the final (closure) report, which they have not done. We are going to give a protest petition against this closure report, which has been prepared on the basis of a poor investigation,” Singh stated.

What does the CBI Closure Report Say?

The CBI had filed two closure reports in March this year: one regarding the case lodged by Rajput’s father, KK Singh, in Patna, accusing Rhea and her family of pushing his son to suicide and misusing his money; the second was a counter-case lodged by Rhea against Rajput’s sisters in Mumbai.

“Investigation revealed that Sushant had committed suicide.” None of the accused individuals had stayed with him from June 8, 2020, to June 14, 2020 (the date on which he was found hanged in his Bandra flat). Rhea and her brother Showik vacated the house on June 8 and subsequently did not go to the house.

Sushant had communicated with Showik on June 10 via WhatsApp at 1441 hours, but not once with Rhea between June 8 and June 14. Evidence had not appeared on record to indicate that Sushant had met Rhea or her family members or been in contact with them via any other medium. Shruti Modi had not been going to Sushant’s residence after she broke her leg in February.

In addition, Meetu Singh (Sushant’s sister) had lived with him in his apartment from June 8 to June 12,” the officer, citing the closure report, quoted.

Agency Clears Rhea of Theft Allegations

In connection with the allegations of theft and misappropriation of funds by Rhea, the agency stated that “when Rhea and her brother exited Sushant’s residence on June 8, she removed her Apple laptop and Apple wristwatch, which were presents given to her by Sushant.

No evidence has appeared within the investigation regarding any property unscrupulously removed out of the possession of Sushant without his knowledge by Rhea or any other accused individual.”

The CBI report further mentioned that Rajput’s financial affairs were handled by his chartered accountant and attorney and that his spending on Rhea, including a 2019 European vacation, was done at his own behest.

He even informed Sidharth Pithani (Sushant’s roommate) that Rhea was family. So, spending on Rhea cannot be brought within the purview of Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. Moreover, the evidence does not indicate any moveable property being handed over to Rhea by fraudulent or deceiving Sushant,” says the closure report, quoting the second officer.

In the meantime, a Patna court will hear the case regarding the closure report on December 20.
