Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara has achieved what few debut-led films manage. In just 25 days, the romantic musical has collected ₹319.85 crore in India and over ₹500 crore globally. Released on July 18, the film crossed the ₹300 crore mark on August 4.

It is now the second-highest grosser of the year, behind Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava. The feat is significant, given the competitive release calendar and the film’s relatively fresh cast.

Strong Run Across Weeks

The film had a blockbuster start, making ₹172 crore in its first week. Collections stayed robust in week two at ₹107.75 crore. Week three saw a drop, with earnings of ₹28.25 crore. On its fourth Monday, Saiyaara still brought in ₹1.35 crore, showing unusual staying power.

Industry analysts attribute its long run to repeat viewings and positive word of mouth, particularly among younger people.

Outshining Competitors

Other big releases failed to dent its earnings. Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar 2, delayed by a week to avoid clashing with Saiyaara, eventually lost steam. Dhadak 2, which received critical praise, could not convert reviews into ticket sales.

The only film to hold some ground was Mahavtar Narsimha, but even it could not match Saiyaara’s pace. Its momentum will be put to the test in the days ahead as War 2 and Coolie are set to release this week.

Story That Strikes a Chord

Saiyaara, produced by Yash Raj Films, tells the emotional journey of Vaani Batra, a young writer with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, and Krish Kapoor, a struggling musician. Mohit Suri’s distinctive fusion of music and passion enhances the story, while debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda bring sincerity to their roles. The soundtrack has become a cultural hit, driving audiences back to cinemas.

Ahaan Panday Effect

The film’s success also marks the emergence of Ahaan Panday as a bankable new face. He escaped becoming a star kid launchpad extravaganza with his debut. Rather, it portrayed him as emotionally motivated and anchored. According to industry insiders, his performance has broken the trend of lighthearted romantic debuts and opened the door for more substantial projects.

What Next?

As Saiyaara approaches the one-month mark, its performance proves that strong storytelling and music can still dominate the box office in an era of franchise fatigue. Whether it can weather the arrival of big-budget actioners will decide how far it climbs in India’s all-time earnings list. For now, it remains the year’s most unexpected and enduring success story.
