Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara has been setting the box office on fire since day one. Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the film has quickly become one of the most talked-about hits of the year. But while fans are eagerly waiting for its OTT debut, it looks like they may have to wait a little longer than usual.

Makers Eye Diwali Release on Netflix

According to reports, Saiyaara was initially slated to premiere on Netflix by the second week of September, following the standard eight-week gap between theatrical and digital releases. However, the makers are reportedly in discussions with the platform to delay the release closer to Diwali.

The reason? The film is still going strong at the box office, and with no major Hindi releases lined up in the immediate future, the team behind Saiyaara is hoping to stretch its theatrical run to the maximum. If the new deal is finalised, the OTT window will be extended to 90 days instead of the usual 56, giving Saiyaara a longer shot at theatrical glory.

Made on a modest budget of ₹45 crore, the film has already earned over ₹153.25 crore in just six days, with domestic collections still climbing steadily. For a film headlined by debut actors, that’s no small feat.

One of the Year’s Highest Grossers

Saiyaara now ranks among the top five highest-grossing Hindi films of the year. It joins the league of biggies like Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava (₹601 crore), Housefull 5 (₹183 crore), Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 (₹173 crore), and Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par (₹163 crore), which is being hailed as a spiritual sequel to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara has not only delivered a career-defining debut for its lead pair but also proved that love stories, when done right, still have a massive theatrical pull.

For now, fans can catch Saiyaara in theatres while they wait for a possible Diwali treat on Netflix.
