WWE’s most thrilling pay-per-view event, SummerSlam 2025, made history with its first-ever two-night format, and Day 1 didn’t disappoint. From shocking returns to unexpected victories, the opening night of this wrestling spectacle saw high-octane drama, title changes, and major twists.

While some matches for August 2 had already concluded earlier in the evening, others played out under the bright lights of the main event, providing fans with a dose of action-packed entertainment ahead of Night 2, scheduled for August 3. Big names like Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio, and John Cena are lined up for tomorrow’s matchups.

Let’s dive into everything that went down on the first night of WWE SummerSlam 2025.

Seth Rollins Cashes In and Steals the Spotlight

In what was expected to be a brutal match between CM Punk and Gunther, fans were stunned when Seth Rollins turned the tide completely. Punk managed to pin Gunther and seemingly walked away as the new World Heavyweight Champion.

However, the drama had just begun. Rollins emerged with a crutch and knee brace, appearing injured. But he quickly removed both to reveal he was perfectly fine—and ready to cash in his Money in the Bank contract.

In a shocking twist, Rollins hit Punk with a briefcase and ended the night with a devastating stomp, pinning him for the win. He is now the new World Heavyweight Champion—and proved yet again why he’s called Mr. Money in the Bank.

Reigns and Uso Prove They Still Run WWE

Roman Reigns and Jey Uso teamed up to face Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed in a tag team clash that many called a battle between legacy and the future.

Despite a strong showing from Breakker and Reed, the experience and chemistry of the Bloodline duo ultimately prevailed. Uso pinned Reed for the win, reinforcing Reigns’ dominance in the WWE universe. “Reigns has proven once again why he is the best to step into the ring.”

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss Secure Tag Team Gold

The unexpected duo of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss walked away with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, defeating Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez in a hard-fought match. The pairing, initially seen as one of convenience, hugged in celebration after their win. Though Raquel and Roxanne had the edge for most of the match, Bliss and Flair turned the tide at the last moment.

Other Major Results From Day 1

Sami Zayn defeated Karrion Kross, despite outside interference from Scarlett, who tossed a steel pipe to Kross. He missed the shot, allowing Zayn to gain control and finish strong. “The game saw Zayn embrace his more sinister side.”

Tiffany Stratton overcame Jade Cargill, defending her title with fierce resilience after a rocky start outside the ring. Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul toppled Randy Orton and Jelly Roll in a celebrity-meets-athletes tag team match.

Jelly Roll was slammed through the announcer’s table, and though he attempted to return, Paul and McIntyre closed it with brute strength.
