The Tamil film world is in shock after the sudden passing of actor and comedian Robo Shankar. He was just 46. Shankar was well-known for his exuberance and signature "robot dance," but his death from liver and kidney issues devastated his fans and colleagues.
Shankar began his career on television rather than in movies after being born in Madurai.When he performed impersonation on the popular Star Vijay TV show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru, he initially attracted public attention. Here, he gained popularity thanks to his humorous timing and amusing robot-style dance, earning him the moniker "Robo," which he carried with him for the rest of his career.
Television gave him his big break, but it was only the beginning. He soon moved to Tamil cinema, where he transformed from a small-screen comedian into one of the most popular comic actors of his time.

Robo Shankar is survived by his wife, Priyanka Shankar, and daughter, Indraja Shankar. Priyanka has worked in television serials, while Indraja acted in Vijay’s Bigil (2019) as a football player. Both carry forward his artistic spirit. The family has asked for privacy as they mourn their loss.
