Neetu Kapoor was back in the news again recently when an old video clip emerged and went viral. In the clip, she defended her son Ranbir Kapoor by saying he "had to call off" his affair with actress Deepika Padukone. The clip has sparked a storm about love, heartbreak, and Bollywood celebrity romance.
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were once in a very public relationship at the start of their acting career. The couple was in the limelight of the media and fans. It did not end on a good note, however. Deepika later accused Ranbir of cheating, which was a major news item and also caused a stir in the industry. Ranbir later admitted to cheating, attributing this to immaturity and mistakes.
In a video of an older show, Neetu Kapoor came in her son's defense. "I don't think he's had a lot of girlfriends; he has only had one girlfriend, that's Deepika. I think maybe something lacked in their relationship. Something was missing, and maybe he wasn't himself, and he needed to break it up.
Her statement meant that the relationship wasn't that great, and Ranbir broke it up because of that.
Deepika Padukone has been honest in saying that cheating had been an area of transformation in their relationship. She went on to say that cheating is what destroys trust and respect, which are the foundation of any relationship. One loses trust once, it's hard to get it back. She said that she had given him second chances but got hurt severely when she realized he had cheated on her.
The old clip raised eyebrows on the social media platform. While some sympathize with Ranbir, believing everyone makes mistakes, others are with Deepika, claiming cheating is unacceptable. The majority believe Neetu Kapoor's statements attempt to defend Ranbir's point of view but also consider them controversial as they could be interpreted as condoning evil.
Ranbir took his wrongdoing. He once confessed that he cheated on Deepika due to immaturity, inexperience, and giving in to temptations. He also said that relationships are complex, and at times things do not work out despite two people loving each other.
