The trailer of Kaantha, directed by Selvaraj Selvamani and featuring Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani, was out on Monday, July 28, Dulquer's birthday. The movie seems to be a taut retro drama of the 1950s Madras era around a father-son tug of war amidst the backdrop of cinema.
Dulquer and Samuthirakani play a complex duo—son and father—entangled in emotional conflict and creative differences. Samuthirakani’s character, referred to as Ayya, is an authoritative film director launching a horror film titled Saantha, touted as the first of its kind in Tamil-Telugu cinema. Dulquer plays his son, a rising superstar who has been groomed from childhood to be in the spotlight. Yet, despite a shared legacy, cracks in their relationship become the film’s emotional core.
Although Dulquer's character has great respect for his father, tensions are high. When Ayya makes the female lead, Bhagyashri Borse, the fulcrum character of the film—both 'hero and heroine', no less—Dulquer's character pushes back.
