Kaantha will release in theatres on 12th September 2025.
The trailer of Kaantha, directed by Selvaraj Selvamani and featuring Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani, was out on Monday, July 28, Dulquer's birthday. The movie seems to be a taut retro drama of the 1950s Madras era around a father-son tug of war amidst the backdrop of cinema.
Dulquer and Samuthirakani play a complex duo—son and father—entangled in emotional conflict and creative differences. Samuthirakani’s character, referred to as Ayya, is an authoritative film director launching a horror film titled Saantha, touted as the first of its kind in Tamil-Telugu cinema. Dulquer plays his son, a rising superstar who has been groomed from childhood to be in the spotlight. Yet, despite a shared legacy, cracks in their relationship become the film’s emotional core.
Although Dulquer's character has great respect for his father, tensions are high. In the trailer, a volatile father-son relationship is exposed, with Ayya going ballistic—choking his son and flinging chairs—when the younger man is trying to stand his ground. When Ayya makes the female lead, Bhagyashri Borse, the fulcrum character of the film—both 'hero and heroine', no less—Dulquer's character pushes back.
He counterattacks by renaming the movie from Saantha to Kaantha, marking a courageous uprising and the start of a climactic confrontation. The trailer sets up towards an epic battle of emotions, promising a story riddled with ego confrontations, identity issues, and a son's struggle to emerge from his father's shadow.
With opulent period visuals, emotional resonance, and a complex father-son conflict, Kaantha is sure to make for an engaging watch. The trailer establishes the tone for an intense drama that blends the old-world nostalgia of classic cinema with universal themes of family and ambition.
After the release of Dulquer Salmaan's Kaantha teaser, fans took to social media to share their reaction to the upcoming period drama thriller. One user praised Dulquer's look and how he fits the overall retro feeling of the movie.
