Dune 3 is slated for release on 18th December 2026.
Jason Momoa shared a video on his Instagram page, shaving his beard in preparation for his return in the Dune franchise as Duncan Idaho. The upcoming Dune 3, directed by Denis Villeneuve, which is slated for release in late 2026, will see the return of Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa) after he died in the first film.
In the video shared on his Instagram, the Aquaman actor can be seen shaving his beard. While shaving, he takes a look at himself and says, "Only for you, Denny," talking about the director of the Dune movie series, Denis Villeneuve.
The actor captioned his post, "Haven’t shaved in six years, and here we are again." In a hilarious moment, the actor can be seen laughing out loud after seeing his half-shaven face. And after seeing his completely shaven face, he says, "God daamnit, I hate it."
In his video, he also talked about his initiative to reduce single-use plastics through his company Mananalu, which was founded around the time he was cast in Dune six years ago.
The reactions to Jason Momoa's post on his Instagram have been positive. The video has been viewed over 2.4 million times on his account. The interactions in the comments have also been positive, with Momoa's girlfriend Adria Arjona also commenting with heart emojis.
Jason Momoa will finally make a return to the Dune movie franchise after five years. In the first instalment in the series, his character, Duncan Idaho, sacrifices himself so Paul and Jessica can escape the Sardaukar. The second instalment in the series was released in 2024, but Momoa's character was not part of the story.
In the source material written by Frank Herbert, Duncan returns as a clone; however, it is unclear if Denis Villeneuve will follow the same story. The Dune series casts Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya and others in key roles. The Third instalment of the movie series began its production in July 2025 and is scheduled for release on 18th December 2026 in the USA.
