Actor Janhvi Kapoor, who has been busy promoting her next film Param Sundari, was trolled on social media after she led a chant of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” at the Dahi Handi celebration during Janmashtami. The actor, a guest at the Mumbai celebration on Saturday, was seen participating in the slogan before breaking the handi. Although the act earned applause at the location, a short video clip soon found its way online, eliciting memes and divided reactions.

Janhvi Clarifies Her Position

On Sunday, Janhvi resorted to Instagram Stories to post the complete video of the incident, describing why she said what she did. She wrote:”Just for context full video lol.”. Unke bolne ke baad nahi bolti toh problem, aur bolo toh bhi video ko kaat ke meme material (If I did not say the slogan after him then it would be a problem, and now that I said it, the video gets cut and made into meme material).

She reiterated her patriotic fervor further, stating: “Waise sirf Janmashtami ke din nahi roz bolungi Bharat Mata ki Jaiiiiii! (Not on Janmashtami alone, but every day I will say Bharat Mata ki Jai).” She accompanied the post with folded hands and Indian flag emojis, reiterating her position.

Speech in Marathi and Promotions for Films

Janhvi also spoke in Marathi at the event. She wished all a happy Janmashtami and encouraged viewers to watch her new romantic comedy Param Sundari, out on August 29. The film, helmed by Dinesh Vijan, is a cross-cultural romance between a Delhi boy Siddharth Malhotra and a Kerala girl Janhvi. Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya are also in lead roles.

Trolls vs. Supporters

While memes swamped social media shortly after the video appeared, most fans rallied behind Janhvi, commending her for showing patriotic passion openly. Others congratulated her sporting attitude for facing the trolling openly rather than turning a blind eye to it.

With Param Sundari set for release later this month, Janhvi’s recent public interactions have kept her in the spotlight. Whether on stage or on social media, her response shows she is keen to strike a balance between film promotions and connecting with audiences on cultural occasions.
