James Gunn isn’t wasting time setting up the future of the DC Universe. Just months after the success of Superman starring David Corenswet, Gunn confirmed that a sequel is already on the way.

The filmmaker, who also leads DC Studios as co-CEO, said the script is in progress, and production planning has begun. Warner Bros. seems confident in this new direction, putting Superman at the centre of its cinematic relaunch.

Gunn’s New Take on Superman

In a recent interview, Gunn shared that he has finished a 60-page treatment for the sequel. This outline includes major story points and even some dialogue. “We’re scheduling it now,” he explained. “My treatments are very detailed—60 pages with dialogue and everything. I’m now turning that into a script, and we’re planning when to start filming. It will be much sooner than people expect.”

Gunn stressed that the film should be seen as the “next chapter” of a larger Superman story, not just a typical sequel. This shows his focus on long-term storytelling rather than one-off projects.

Different Creative Approach

Gunn’s vision is very different from how DC films were made in the past. He has said there won’t be one fixed style for all DC projects. Instead, every director and writer will bring their ideas and tone. For instance, while Superman will remain grounded and character-driven, Clayface will be a full horror movie.

This freedom is part of DC’s new plan. The upcoming lineup includes Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, Lanterns, Wonder Woman, and Clayface. Each story will stand strong on its own but still link back to the same shared universe.

Why Moving Fast Matters?

The quick push for the sequel shows Warner Bros.’s strong faith in Gunn and his partner, Peter Safran. It also signals a break from the troubled days of the DCEU.

That older model was often criticized for messy crossovers and uneven stories. This time, DC wants quality first and isn’t rushing to connect every film.

Building a Long-Term Future

James Gunn’s thoughtful planning shows a broader trend in Hollywood with strong characters & interwined storylines, which are necessary for successful blockbuster series. Fans can expect fresh updates within the year, including casting news, production details, and teaser releases.

The next chapter in Superman’s journey is more than just another sequel. It is proof that DC Studios wants to create a lasting universe—one built on strong stories and creative freedom.
