Former wife of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma has revealed personal details about the emotional impacts of their divorce hearing. During an appearance on a podcast on Tuesday, Verma described the court verdict day and also responded to Chahal wearing a 'Be Your Own Sugar Daddy' T-shirt to court.

The Day of Divorce

Verma remembered the overpowering feelings she felt while being in court. She noted, "I still recall the moment I was standing there and the verdict was about to be announced. Although we were so well-prepared mentally, I became so emotional. I began to howl before everyone."

The choreographer also explained how she had tried to hold herself in, stating, "I couldn't even say what I was feeling then. I just recall that I just continued crying, I was just howling and crying. Naturally! All that happened, and he (Chahal) went out first."

The T-Shirt Controversy

Throughout the divorce process, Chahal wore a T-shirt that had 'Be Your Own Sugar Daddy' printed on it, which caused a stir online. Verma spoke on the matter, stating, "You know that people are going to blame you. Before I had even known that this T-shirt stunt had happened, we were all aware that people were going to blame me for this."

She also reacted in shock upon viewing videos of the T-shirt after court, exclaiming, "Are bhai, WhatsApp kar deta. T-shirt kyu pehna hai? (You should have sent it on WhatsApp. Why wear the T-shirt?)"

On Maturity and Societal Expectations

Pondering the need to manage the situation in a mature manner, Verma commented, "I feel you have to be very mature about this. I have taken that route. I chose to be mature rather than being immature and making immature remarks that can catch the public's eye. But I would not take that path because I don't want to destroy my family values or his family values. We have to maintain respect."

She also spoke about social pressures on women, saying, "All that time you invest just passes, it arrives. As a woman, humko sikhaya jaata hai ki nibhaao, bhandh ke chalo, karo. (As a woman, we are taught to keep everything sorted out and manage). Because we understand our societies so well, our moms understand our societies so well. You'll be branded."

Marriage with Chahal

Verma thought about her standing by Chahal during their marriage and stated, "You have to put in an effort. I know how much I have stood up for my partner, and everybody has seen that. Like for the smallest or biggest things, I have been there. Maybe because of that, my emotions came out."

She summed up, "The way you conduct yourself on that one day is a reflection of you as an individual." The couple got hitched in 2020 and broke up in 2025. Chahal earlier had spoken about his own issues with mental health and projecting the facade of a happy marriage in a past podcast.
