Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie – Part 1: Akaza Returns, slated to hit Indian theatres in September, is the thing all anime enthusiasts are looking forward to. Being the first instalment of a trilogy based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga arc Infinity Castle, the Ufotable-directed film guarantees epic battles, breathtaking visuals, and great storytelling. Here’s what to expect from this climactic chapter, going by gathered from online sources.

What is The Story of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie?

Following the Hashira Training Arc, the Demon Slayer Corps is thrust into Muzan Kibutsuji’s Infinity Castle, a shifting maze, after a failed attempt to defeat the demon king. Covering early chapters (140–155) of the manga’s Final Battle Arc, the film follows Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko, and the Hashira as they face Muzan’s Upper Rank demons. Standout fights are Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka’s rematch with Upper Rank Three Akaza, whose tragic past is revealed, and Shinobu Kocho’s battle with Upper Rank Two Doma. Zenitsu’s battle against Kaigaku brings personal stakes to the fight. These simultaneous fights, filled with Ufotable’s slick choreography, establish a high-stakes tone, although the series ends on a cliffhanger, hinting at impending battles such as Kanao vs. Doma.

Is the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie Worth Watching?

The Infinity Castle is brought to unreal heights by Ufotable’s animation, which has received praise in the reviews for its vibrant colour scheme and battle scenes. Yuki Kajiura and Go Shiina’s soundtrack, which features the songs “Taiyō ga Noboranai Sekai” by Aimer and “Zankoku no Yoru ni Kagayake” by LiSA, combines a grand orchestration with traditional Japanese tones, resonating through both action and moving flashbacks. However, some viewers have complained that the overuse of flashbacks, particularly Akaza’s, in the 155-minute film slows down the pacing. Because of the trilogy’s implied unfinished plot, new viewers may need to familiarise themselves with the series to follow along. Despite earning ¥7.31 billion (US$49.55 million) in Japan in just four days, these criticisms lessen its impact.
