When DDLJ First Released
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge released in theatres on October 20, 1995. It immediately turned out to be a blockbuster and became the longest-running film in the history of Indian cinema, as it has been continuously playing for over 25 years at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theatre.

The film has also seen various re-releases into the theaters due to its appeal to audiences that love the love story therein, especially on or around Valentine’s Day or any major anniversaries.
The Bronze Statue of DDLJ: Tribute to Bollywood Cinema
This is particularly because the DDLJ statue was the first Indian film to make its way into Leicester Square’s prestigious collection of famous figures, which includes Batman, Mary Poppins, and Paddington Bear.
The bronze sculpture features Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in a signature romantic pose from the movie, one that has become classic and instantly recognizable by the fans.
The location, too, is apt: Leicester Square itself featured in the film when Raj and Simran crossed paths unknowingly at the beginning of their European odyssey.
That the statue was personally unveiled by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol made the moment all the more emotional for fans worldwide.
Cost to Make the Bronze Statue
Although the actual cost of creating and installing the bronze DDLJ statue remains unannounced, the cost of large bronze statues can run into tens of thousands up to over a hundred thousand pounds, this being part of the “Scenes in the Square” trail celebrating Indian Cinema, courtesy of the BFI and Film London, highlighting the legacy of the film-not the private purchase cost-such sculptures are an expensive affair.
