Coolie Day 1 Collection Worldwide: The opening day numbers for the Lokesh Kanagaraj film are in, and with it, Rajinikanth has once again proved why he commands the kind of presence most actors can only dream of. According to Sacnilk, the Lokesh Kanagaraj film released in theatres on 14th August 2025, to a domestic collection of ₹65 crores (approx), making it the biggest opening day of Rajinikanth’s career. And now, according to a post by Sun Pictures, the production house behind the movie, Coolie’s worldwide collection totalled to over ₹151 crore (approx).

Coolie’s Mints ₹151 crore Worldwide

By crossing the ₹151 crore mark on its first day, the Lokesh Kanagaraj film has become the biggest opener in Kollywood in terms of day one worldwide box office collection. Moreover, the film has also surpassed releases under Kangaraj’s own Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), his biggest being Leo (starring Vijay), with ₹148.5 crore in opening worldwide collection.

Coolie also places first in Rajinikanth’s filmography in terms of opening day numbers. The film grossed ₹65 crore at the domestic box office, placing it over Jailer (₹48.35 crore), Vettaiyan (₹31.5 crore), 2.0 (₹23 crore) and Petta (₹14 crore).

Rajinikanth Clashes With Hrithik Roshan’s War 2

The opening day monster Coolie opened in theatres to initial scepticism due to its clash with the pan-India release War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film boasts a star-studded cast of Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR and Kiara Advani, all against Coolie, which was solely marketed on the star power of Rajinikanth despite starring names like Aamir Khan and Nagarjuna.

Comparing both films’ box office numbers, War 2 earned a total of ₹52.5 crore (approx) on its opening day, which falls 12.5 crore short of Coolie’s ₹65 crore (approx) domestic collection, according to a report from Sacnilk.

After the release of its day 1 number, War 2 has become the lowest opening Hindi release in the YRF Spy Universe by generating ₹29 crore on its opening day. Leading the pack for YRF is the Shah Rukh Khan Starrer Pathaan, with ₹55 crore generated on the opening day for its Hindi version alone. Following it is the original War starring Hrithik alongside Tiger Shroff, with ₹51.60 crore.

All in all, Rajinikanth has proven to be a bankable lead even at the age of 74. The legendary actor also completed his 50 years as a leading man in movies, serving as a testament to his unparalleled popularity and influence.
