Archana Puran Singh, famous for her laughter and strong personality on shows like The Kapil Sharma Show, recently revealed a more vulnerable side of herself. On a podcast chat, in an intimate conversation, she spoke about the ups and downs in her 33-year-long marriage to actor-director Parmeet Sethi. Behind the staged smiles on camera, she talked of misunderstandings, ego clashes, childhood emotional scars, and how meditation helped them recover and mend.
The Perfect Couple Theory
“I was thinking, what is a perfect couple?” Archana asked, acknowledging that many think she and Parmeet are perfect as a pair. But she quickly countered: no one is perfect in a relationship. The true strength, she said, is being able to ride out storms together. In her marriage, there were constant mood swings, pride fights, insecurities from the past, misunderstandings but they continued to choose each other.
A Childhood Experience That Continued
Archana revealed a childhood hurt that she had never properly digested. She remembered that when she was ten months old, her mother went to Kolkata for ten days and left her behind. That feeling of being left behind had a lasting effect. While doing a meditation exercise, she caught herself saying, “Mummy, don’t leave me,” which was a surprise to her. It was only afterwards that she inquired from her mother, who verified the incident. This recollection, she claimed, had quietly influenced her emotional reactions later in life.
Meditation as the Turning Point
During a bad patch in their marriage, Archana persuaded Parmeet to take a spiritual class with her. He was reluctant at first but did so. The couple started practicing Sudarshan Kriya, pranayama, and other meditative techniques together. Parmeet then informed Archana that in one session, even during their argument, he find her as “the most beautiful woman.” With that awareness, their relationship changed. They started talking again, understood one another better and released ego as well as their differences.
Fighting Ego, Misunderstandings & Communication
Archana was truthful: they did err. Some were because of misunderstandings, others due to allowing personal ego to interfere. But what helped them bridge the gap was owning up to the errors, deciding on forgiveness, and being open to healing together.
Life Today: Not Perfect, But Peaceful
Archana was sure that they are not “perfect,” but they are dedicated. She characterized their love now as being about acceptance, forgiveness, and understanding more than sweeping gestures. They still meditate and breathe together, and still falter, but choose each other even in failure. Their sons, Aaryamann and Ayushmaan, are included in their walk.
