Singer and music composer Amaal Mallik has finally opened up about the long-standing feud in his music family, targeting his uncle, veteran music composer Anu Malik. In an open interview to Siddharth Kanan, Amaal blamed Anu for ruining his father Daboo Malik’s career and spoke about why he went underground during the MeToo campaign. His scathing comments brought the uglier side of the music industry to light and how family rivalry influenced his career.
Anu Malik Accused of Undermining Daboo Malik’s Career
Amaal said that Anu Malik aggressively competed with his father to establish himself as the better composer in the family. “He wanted to establish that he is the best composer and would go to any extent,” Amaal told us. Anu, he said, would go to producers who were already working with Daboo Malik and offer to compose music for a lower fee—or even gratis—just to steal the projects away from him.
Amaal also accused that this was not a one-off case, “Not Anu Malik alone, even Sajid-Wajid played games and ruined my father’s career,” he claimed. Referring to his father as “too naïve” to strike back, Amaal confessed that seeing these betrayals gave him the motivation to prove himself on his own terms.
Amaal Distanced Himself During MeToo Allegations
Speaking on the #MeToo accusations that surfaced against Anu Malik, Amaal made it clear that he did not feel any familial obligation to support him. “It was not my concern. I don’t consider him my family,” he said. He acknowledged feeling embarrassed during the time, adding, “If so, many women spoke up, there must be some truth. Why would they lie?”
Amaal’s Stand on Consent and Work Ethics
Amaal also revealed a personal conversation he had with his father, who asked if Amaal feared being accused in the future. Amaal responded confidently, saying, “There is no chance. I’ve never asked for favors in return for songs. All the girls who’ve worked with me have always felt safe.”
In his strong words, Amaal Mallik not only revealed personal and professional scandals but also established himself as a strong voice for ethics in the entertainment industry.
