A student of computer science at the Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Vamshi, entered the building carrying a bottle of incendiary material, drenched himself in it, and lit a match to set himself on fire.

He received emergency care at a private hospital in Kanchanbagh. He was reportedly in a severe condition when he passed away late on Saturday.

Following the incident on Wednesday, the Ibrahimpatnam police registered the complaint for investigation under IPC 309, “Suicide Attempt.” For further investigation, it changed the registration on Sunday to Cr. PC. 174.

The student apparently suffered from depression for a while after being rejected by a female acquaintance, according to the police’s preliminary inquiry. There was no other suspicion surrounding the incident.
