International Women’s Day marks not just a celebration of achievements but a call to action for gender equality worldwide. In the heart of Gangwana village, Ajmer, Rajasthan, Guljaan Khanam stands as a beacon of change, embodying the spirit of empowerment and progress for women in her community.

Guljaan’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and determination. Armed with a Master’s degree from Sophia College, Ajmer, she ventured into the teaching profession, driven by a profound desire to uplift the status of women in society.

In 2020, Guljaan shattered stereotypes by winning the election for Sarpanch of Gangwana Village. With a clear vision and unwavering commitment, she set out to make a difference.

Her first initiative, the “Mahilla Swayam Saheyta Samuh,” aimed to provide women with opportunities for economic independence. Through this endeavor, Guljaan catalyzed the formation of 20-25 more groups, empowering women with employment and financial stability.

Beyond economic empowerment, Guljaan recognized the urgent need to address issues like domestic violence. Fearless and resolute, she encouraged women to raise their voices against abuse, fostering a culture of solidarity and support.

But Guljaan’s impact extended beyond the confines of economic and social empowerment. Recognizing the importance of education, she initiated history and English classes for girls at the Mahatma Gandhi Government Higher Secondary School. Her dedication to nurturing young minds didn’t stop there. Guljaan provided career counseling and value education classes, ensuring students had the tools they needed to succeed.

Her efforts bore fruit when she received an award for achieving 100% enrollment in schools, a testament to her unwavering dedication to education and equality. Guljaan didn’t stop there; she tackled deep-rooted issues like child marriage head-on. Through counseling and advocacy, she persuaded parents to prioritize education over tradition, rescuing countless children from a life of early marriage and limited opportunities.

Moreover, Guljaan extended a helping hand to students who had dropped out, encouraging them to pursue higher education and realize their full potential.

Guljaan Khanam’s story isn’t just about breaking barriers; it’s about creating pathways for others to follow. Through her tireless efforts and unwavering determination, she has transformed her community, inspiring generations to dream, aspire, and achieve. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let Guljaan’s journey serve as a reminder of the indomitable spirit of women everywhere and the limitless possibilities that await when we stand together for equality and empowerment.
