Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced the launch of a new update called ‘improved image matching’ to combat the menance of deepfakes and shallowfakes on social media platform X.
In this new update, show notes of 30 percent more posts will be shown that contain similar or identical images. It has further announced that will also be monitoring the erroneous image matches.
While announcing the update, the CEO also added that they hope that this move makes a big difference in fighting deep fakes and shallow fakes as well.

Coming to shallow fakes, it actually refers to photos, videos and voice clips which are generated without the help of AI (artificial intelligence). And make use of available editing and software tools.
In order to combat shallow-fakes, X’s update notes on images that automatically show on posts that contain a matching image.
As per the company, its very common for the notes to match on dozens of posts. The company also emphasised that in an image note many posts are matched on “right in note details.”
