Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk expressed frustration over California’s delayed election results, contrasting it with India’s rapid vote-counting process during its Lok Sabha elections. Musk noted that while India managed to count 640 million votes in just one day, California is still finalizing its results 19 days after polling.
Retweeting a post highlighting India’s electoral efficiency, Musk commented, “India counted 640 million votes in 1 day. California is still counting votes,” accompanied by a facepalm emoji.
As of now, 98% of the votes in California have been counted, and the Associated Press has projected Democratic candidate Kamala Harris as the winner with 58.6% of the vote, compared to Republican Donald Trump’s 38.2%. Despite the near-completion of counting, the official results remain pending.
California, home to nearly 39 million residents, saw over 16 million votes cast in the November 5 election. The state’s reliance on mail-in voting, which involves meticulous validation and processing of each ballot, contributes to the longer counting period compared to the quicker scanning process used for in-person voting.
