President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Republican Representative Elise Stefanik as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, according to a CNN report. Trump lauded Stefanik in a statement, calling her “an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter.”

“I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as US Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” Trump stated.

Stefanik, who currently serves as the House Republican Conference Chair and holds the position of the most senior Republican in New York, made history in 2014 when she became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress in U.S. history. She is also a senior member of several key committees, including Armed Services, Education and the Workforce, and Intelligence. Additionally, Stefanik served on the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.

Born and raised in Upstate New York, Stefanik worked in the White House from 2006 to 2009 as part of President George W. Bush’s Domestic Policy Council and the Chief of Staff’s office, focusing on economic and domestic policy development.

Earlier, Trump also announced the appointment of Tom Homan, former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as “The Border Czar” in charge of U.S. borders, maritime security, and deportations of illegal immigrants. “I am pleased to announce that the former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration,” Trump shared on Truth Social.
