In a bid to enhance voter awareness, the Malerkotla district administration in Punjab unveiled its new mascot, ‘Samajhdar Begum,’ on Friday.

Dr. Palavi, the Malerkotla Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the mascot’s role in educating voters, especially women and youngsters, about their voting rights.

“Samajhdar Begum,” explained Dr. Palavi, “represents the harmonious, vibrant culture of our district. She has arrived on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr to assist all our voters during this election season, clearing any queries they may have.”

To further encourage voter turnout, the administration plans to establish Model Polling Stations, Pink Polling Stations, PWD Polling Stations, and Youth Managed Polling Stations in the area.

Malerkotla, a minority-dominated area, witnessed a 70.54% voter turnout in 2019. With a goal set to surpass 80% this time, the introduction of ‘Samajhdar Begum’ aims to play a significant role in achieving this target by engaging and informing voters across the district.
