BJP sweeps Delhi to score a Hat-Trick

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a hattrick of sweeping all seats in Delhi in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The saffron party swept all seven seats in the 2014 and 2019 elections too. It shows that in Delhi, the grand old party (Congress) and the Aam Adami Party, as part of the INDIA bloc, are not getting a single seat. Most exit polls also predicted a sweep for the BJP in Delhi. “From 1952 till date, Delhi has never made the same party win in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections, but today Delhi has expressed confidence in the Modi government and made the BJP win for the third time,” said Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva.

Ahead of the polls, many had speculated that the BJP would face significant challenges due to issues such as inflation, unemployment, the Manipur incident, etc. However, the BJP managed to overcome these obstacles and secured victory in all parliamentary constituencies in Delhi.

The Lok Sabha elections in Delhi were held in one phase. Voting for all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi was held on May 25 under Phase 6. The election battle primarily resolved around a bipolar contest between the BJP and the I.N.D.I.A. alliance, led by the grand old party Congress. It was a first-of-its-kind election that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress joined forces to challenge the ruling BJP, but yet again the saffron party managed another victory in Delhi’s Lok Sabha elections.
In this election, the Aam Adami Party fielded four candidates and the Congress, three. The BJP, meanwhile, dropped six of its seven MPs and repeated only North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari.

New Delhi
Bansuri Swaraj, late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj’s daughter, is making her electoral debut in this general election. She registered a win against her AAP rival Somnath Bharti in the New Delhi seat with a margin of 78370. She got 453185 votes while her opponent got 374815 votes.

North-East Delhi
Kanhaiya Kumar, who lost the last Lok Sabha election from Begusarai in Bihar, is up against the BJP’s two-term MP Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi. The former student union president of JNU Kanhaiya Kumar has to wait for its first Lok Sabha win as it lost the 2024 Lok Sabha election to Bhojpuri star and sitting MP Manoj Tiwari.
Tiwari won the constituency witha a margin of 138778 votes and secured 824451 votes while Kanhaiya kumar got 685676 votes and come second in the election.

South Delhi
BJP’s Ramvir Singh Bidhuri secured victory against its opponent, Aam Adami Party candidate Sahi Ram. He won the South Delhi constituency with a margin of 124333. He secured 692832 votes, while the runner-up Sahi Ram secured 568499 votes.

East Delhi
Harsh Malhotra of the BJP won the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of more than 91000 votes. He defeated Aam Adami Party candidate Kuldeep Kumar who got 571156 votes. Harsh Malhotra won the seat with a margin of 93663 votes and secured 664819 votes in the election.
West Delhi
Vetran leader Mahabal Mishra, who contested on the Aam Adami party’s ticket, lost the 2024 Lok Sabha election to the BJP’s debutant Kamaljeet Sehrawat.

North-West Delhi
BJP’s Yogendra Chandoliya won the Northwest parliamentary constituency of Delhi. He defeted Congress senior candidate Udit Raj.

Chandni Chowk
BJP’s Chandni Chowk candidate Parveen Khandelwal defeated Congress veteran Jay Prakash Agarwal. Kendelwal won the parliamentary seat of Chandni Chowk with a margin of 89325 votes. Khandelwal got 516496 votes, while Congressman J.P. Agarwal got 427171 votes in this election.
A congress leader told The Daily Guardian that if Congress opens its account in Delhi, it will open up a space for the party to reestablish itself in the state. And motivate the cadre to look for assembly seats in the upcoming assembly elections. Right now, the Congress as a cadre is scattered; however, with one Lok Sabha seat, it will have a power centre in the capital.

Devender Yadav, reacting to the final outcome to the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, said that he respected the will of the people, but the amazing response the Congress and India Alliance candidates got in many Assembly segments was proof enough that Congress was still very strong at the grass-root level, and it was just a matter of time the party returned its all-conquering form. He further appealed to the Congress workers to continue with their hard work without getting disheartened and disillusioned, as it was a long fight, and Congress will eventually emerge victorious in Delhi.

Aam Adami party leader and Environment Minister of Delhi Gopal Rai said that the public of the country has totally ignored the BJP’s ‘abki baar 400 paar’ slogan. Last time it was ‘300 paar’ and this time the BJP hasn’t even crossed the majority of votes, said Rai, adding that the public is looking for a change.
The BJP, meanwhile, said it was certain it would sweep all seven seats—albeit with lower margins than last time. R.P. Singh, BJP national spokesperson, told The Daily Guardian that “Polls results show that Delhiites have lost faith in Congress and the Aam Adami party, which indicates Delhiites trust the BJP and is a good indication for the forthcoming assembly election in Delhi.”

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that “the people of Delhi had created an unprecedented history by giving a 7-0 victory to the BJP for the third consecutive time. He further said that the result shows that the people of Delhi have completely rejected the corruption of Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party in this election.
