A tragic road accident in the Marwah area of District Kishtwar killed eight passengers and injured several others. According to reports, on Wednesday, an overloaded Tata Sumo collided with a deep gorge while travelling to the Rachael area of Marwah in the Kishtwar district.

Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Devansh Yadav said “that a passenger vehicle fell into a nallah near Rachal this evening. He said that in the incident, at least eight people, including four women, are feared dead even as a rescue operation has been launched.”

He further added that teams of police, army, and health officials were present on the spot for a rescue operation.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Dr. Jitender Singh, and Gulam Nabi Azad condoled the incident. Manoj Sinha also directed the district authorities to provide all necessary assistance.

“Anguished to learn about the loss of lives in a road accident in Kishtwar. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families. Directed district administration to provide all necessary assistance,” the J&K L-G tweeted on Wednesday.

Union Minister Dr Jitender Singh tweeted, “Just now spoke to DC #Kishtwar Dr Devansh Yadav after receiving the news of an unfortunate Tata Sumo road accident in the Marwah area. 8 people died on the spot, and rescue efforts are underway to recover the remaining victims. All possible assistance would be provided, and additional assistance would be made available as needed. My sincere condolences to bereaved families”

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Kashmi, who floated his new party, also condoled the incident and tweeted, “I am shocked and saddened to hear about the road accident at Alasyar Road, Marwah, Kishtwar District, J&K, in which 8 people (including 4 women) lost their lives. May the departed souls rest in peace.”
